Bifacial Solar C&I Project Case Study Project Owner - Ashok Textile Mills Pvt. Location - Namakkal, Tamil Nadu Bifacial technology is swiftly gaining prominence in the solar market, both in utility and Commercial and Industrial (C&I) segment. With generation from both sides of the panel, bifacial modules provide an effective solution to increase generation/efficiency with little to no additional associated cost. Hence, through this case study of an already operational bifacial solar project, we are analysing in detail the complexities associated with this emerging technology. The case study additionally provides insight into other greening initiatives of Ashok Textiles Mills like wind and other efforts to further reduce dependence on state DISCOM by procuring power from power exchanges. The bifacial solar project in consideration is owned by Ashok Textile Mills Pvt. Ltd. and caters to the energy requirements of its factory situated in Namakkal, Tamil Nadu. Commissioned in September 2022, the cumulative project size is 10 MW/12 MWp, consisting of both off-site and on-site installations. It is one of the largest open access bifacial C&I solar project in India. The case study highlights in detail several parameters associated with bifacial projects including, project specifications, equipment used, project cost economics, project performance etc. To understand end consumer benefit, consumption details are also analyzed in detail to estimate annual cost savings as well as CO2 abatement from the project.
