Of the 13 seats that went to polls, the BJP had held three , Congress two and the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Janata Dal United or JD(U) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) one each. Three seats were held by Independent candidates before the bypolls. The Congress won four seats — two each in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand; TMC won all four seats that polled in Bengal; AAP won the lone Punjab seat; DMK the one Tamil Nadu seat. The three men were headed for a village five kilometres away, to extort ₹50 lakh from a local doctor for their gang leader, fugitive Portugal-based gangster Himanshu Bhau, when they were waylaid by the raiding team, two police officers who were part of the encounter said on Saturday. The gangster and police exchanged 43 bullets during the shootout. A member of Bhau’s gang had tipped off the Delhi Police crime branch team about their plan, leading officers to the three men – Ashish Lalu, Vikas (also known as Vicky Ridhana) and Sunny Kharar (also known as Gujjar).
