It is time for ThePrint Charcha!

Hi there,

I have some good news and some bad news: unfortunately, we have to reschedule our subscriber-exclusive ThePrint Charcha. But the good news is you won't have to wait long!

Please join us for this month's Charcha tomorrow - 27th February 2024 - at 6pm, not today at 6pm.

This month, I'll be talking to eminent experts about how geopolitics is affecting the Indian economy — especially in the state of Tamil Nadu. I have reported on how Tamil Nadu, the most industrialised state in the country, has invested in its manufacturing sector and scored thousands of crores in foreign investment. From iPhones to Crocs, India is beginning to supply the world's demand — and emerge as a competitor to China.

We've got an exciting panel lined up for you, with the very same people who are helping frame Tamil Nadu's industrial policy. Our panellists include:

1. Senior bureaucrat Vishnu Venugopal, MD & CEO of Guidance, Tamil Nadu's agency for investment promotion. He's the person behind all the big ticket investments Tamil Nadu has been able to secure recently.

2. Economist Dr. M. Vijayabaskar, a professor at the Madras Institute of Development Studies and a member of the State Planning Commission. He's written the book The Dravidian Model: Interpreting the Political Economy of Tamil Nadu, and has been instrumental in helping plan the state's political economy.

3. Historian Nikhil Joseph Dharan, a PhD scholar at the University of Pennsylvania. He's a historian of science, industrialisation and the environment in South India, and has been studying industrial growth in the Madras Presidency since the early 1900s.

Please join us tomorrow, February 27, at 6pm to discuss Tamil Nadu's past, present and future — and what its heady growth story tells us about not just India, but the world as it shifts to explore the China+1 Strategy.

Apologies for rescheduling, but we know this interaction will be an eye-opener to everyone interested in how the Indian economy is growing.
