Former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday told the Supreme Court that governor B S Koshiyari’s decisions to force the MVA government face a trust vote and then appoint rebel MLAs’ leader Eknath Shinde as CM were liable to be struck down as the governor had no constitutional power or discretion to protect rebel MLAs from disqualification under anti-defection law for defying Shiv Sena party whip in June last year.

Allahabad HC clears decks for reopening of hookah bars
Decks were cleared for re-opening of hookah bars, which were banned by the state government during the Covid pandemic, when the Allahabad high court permitted their owners to apply to the statutory authority under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, for grant/renewal of licence to run their respective hookah bars, reports Rajesh Kumar Pandey. Disposing of a petition filed in this connection, a division bench directed that if applications for reopening of hookah bars were made by their owners, the same may be decided strictly in accordance with law as expeditiously as possible, preferably within a period of one month from the date of filing of such application.
