It was inevitable that Father’s trainer, Rocky, would ask why he was carrying around a Joel Osteen book. From what Rocky knew of Father, he was a Hindu of the Chitti Melaka community. Rocky was a typical Malay. From Rocky’s perspective, Father should have been reading the Gita or some book in Tamil, in that script undecipherable for someone who spoke Bahasa Melayu. So, when Rocky saw Father put the Osteen book down onto the table as he went for the dumbbells, he said, “You are learning to be Christian now?” Father pointed upwards and said, “You call it Allah.
