A 30-year-old Delhi Police constable on duty was killed on Sunday after a car rammed into his motorbike, dragged him nearly 10 metres, and smashed him into a parked car — after the policeman gestured the driver to slow down —officers said on Sunday. The road rage incident happened in the Veena Enclave area, near Nangloi, west Delhi.

The road rage incident happened in the Veena Enclave area, near Nangloi, west Delhi.

Police said the victim, identified as Sandeep (single name), was in plain clothes but on duty at the time of his death. Police are yet to nab the driver of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R but have caught a second occupant of the vehicle. Read More

Delhi mayor moves SC against MCD panel election, what happens now?

Delhi mayor Shelly Oberoi on Sunday moved the Supreme Court to challenge the recent election of the sixth member of the standing committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), saying that the procedure to carry out the process was “unconstitutional” and a “blatant violation of the rights of the elected representatives”.

The high-drama election to the last vacant seat of the 18-member panel, MCD’s highest decision making body, was held on Friday last week, and saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Sunder Singh secure the seat. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress had, in a first, boycotted the voting. The polling was held in the presence of additional commissioner Jitendra Yadav, who was made the presiding officer by the lieutenant governor (LG) in the absence of the mayor and deputy mayor. Union defence minister Rajnath Singh and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge held rallies in parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday where they targeted each other’s camps as political parties wrapped up their campaigning in Jammu and Kashmir before the last of the assembly constituencies go to polls on Tuesday.

Pakistan, terrorism, the scrapping of Article 370 of the Constitution that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and the question of statehood for a region that was turned into a UT in 2019 were the dominant issues in the campaign pitches.
