Police said the victim, identified as Sandeep (single name), was in plain clothes but on duty at the time of his death. Delhi mayor Shelly Oberoi on Sunday moved the Supreme Court to challenge the recent election of the sixth member of the standing committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), saying that the procedure to carry out the process was “unconstitutional” and a “blatant violation of the rights of the elected representatives”. The high-drama election to the last vacant seat of the 18-member panel, MCD’s highest decision making body, was held on Friday last week, and saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Sunder Singh secure the seat.
