Indigo Is Not Following Procedures For Safety, Breaking Rules: Indigo Employees Lodge Complaint

IndiGo's technicians complained to aircraft manufacturer Airbus that the airline is not following standard maintenance procedures, risking passengers' safety.

This charge has been denied by the airline amid an ongoing conflict between staff and company.

Calling out lack of maintenance

All-India Aircraft Technicians penned a letter on July 12, asking Airbus to intervene in order to avoid any untoward incidents with aircraft it has supplied.

The letter requested Airbus to share maintenance data of the past seven days.

IndiGo hit back, saying that it follows the highest standards of aircraft maintenance and adheres to all regulatory norms and called the allegations baseless.

It also said that these accusations are being spread with malicious intent.

It has a fleet of over 280 aircraft with high operational availability and claimed itself to be one of the safest airlines in the world.

Accused of deferring scheduled maintenance

Meanwhile the technicians said that IndiGo is not following standard procedures of maintenance and that they have gone on strike.

Despite this, they said that the airline is flying the aircraft without proper maintenance and are also deferring the scheduled maintenance.

Airbus refused to comment, saying that it makes no comment on the operations of its  customers.

Some technicians fired

A day after this letter, IndiGo on Wednesday terminated the services of a few technicians who participated in the strike.

However it is unclear if they were terminated due to the letter.

The strike was called in protest against lower pay.

Several aircraft technicians reported sick and skipped work to press for salary hikes.

Tussle over salary

Very few technicians reported for the night shift at the Delhi and Hyderabad airports last Saturday.

A week before that IndiGo's flight operations were hit by en masse leave when employees appeared for walk-in recruitment interviews at rival Air India.

IndiGo said it is in the process of addressing some of the issues related to employee remuneration and will continue to take employee feedback.

DGCA says all OK

Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that they had carried out spot checks to evaluate the situation and found things in order.

director general Arun Kumar said that the issue stands resolved and the operations normal.

Indians Will Be Soon Allowed To Repair Their Smartphones, TVs, Gadgets: Right To Repair Movement Catching Steam
Indians Will Be Soon Allowed To Repair Their Smartphones, TVs, Gadgets: Right To Repair Movement Catching Steam

The Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) has formed a committee to design the framework of a new law- the Right-to-repair legislation.

Job creation

The framework will not be limited to smartphones but will also cover multiple product segments like farming equipment, consumer durables and the products in the automobile industry.

The new legislation will be in line with the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat employment schemes.

It is expected to create job opportunities by launching third-party and self-repair services.

Freedom of access

It will also allow local electronic repair and service centres to conduct their business with ease.

Prices of replacement parts will become more transparent across the industry.

Users will be allowed to repair some of the parts on their own.

As seen in the US, the right to repair movement forced Apple to give third-party service centres access to replacement parts and repair guides as well.

The public would also be able to buy parts and equipment required to fix their devices like the iPhone from their home.

The Indian government will follow on the same lines to ensure that companies operating in India do so in a fair manner.

Purpose

Many countries like the US, UK and those within the EU have already passed legislation that supports the right to repair.

The idea behind the law is to give device owners access to the essential services and equipment required to fix their damaged products.

Typically many manufacturers restrict repair services only to their service centres so access to parts is limited.

As a result consumers are given no choice but to head to an authorised service centre and pay the amount that the company quotes.

Impact on manufacturers

The law seeks to change that not just for consumers, but also for third-party businesses.

It will require companies to be more forthcoming when it comes to parts availability and repair guides.

Any service centre and a user who wants to repair a device can order the parts required.

Manufacturers send them along with repair guides. However, these may be at a fee.

Environment

It also has a positive environmental impact since unwanted e-waste gets reduced as users continue reusing products as long as possible.

This is the central focus of the LiFE (Lifestyle for the Environment) movement which is also a priority for the government.

India’s 1st Bullet Train: Work On 8 Stations Between Mumbai-Ahmedabad Is On In Full Swing!

The Ministry of Railways has reported that work on all 8 stations of the bullet train project or Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor is under various stages of completion.

Progress

It also said that 100% civil and track contracts have been awarded for all 352 km of corridor.

75-KM pier work and 156 km of piling work have been completed in the Gujarat section of the project.

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) had said earlier that work on India's first bullet train project —Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor—is progressing on schedule using cutting-edge technology.

On track for 2027

NHSRCL is a special purpose vehicle responsible for financing, construction, maintaining and managing the High-Speed Rail Corridor in India.

Satish Agnihotri, former Managing Director said that the construction is likely to be completed by 2027.

NHSRCL is progressing with 5-km piers currently and will ramp it up to 10-km piers soon.

Cutting-edge technology

Agnihotri said that cutting-edge technology is being used which is available only in 4-5 countries worldwide, helping shorten the time taken to complete the project.

This is viaduct-based technology which minimises land acquisition needs and has reduced land acquisition requirement to one-third.

He explained that normally around 11,000 girders have to be cast which takes a week each, enormously stretching the time on the project.

Working with Japan

Now they have established 15 casting yards, using which construction time can be sped up.

Japanese and Indian teams are working together to complete the process by 2027.

While Covid delayed the progress of construction during the second wave, work progressed on schedule during the third wave.

This Indian Company Has Removed Attendance System For Employees! Does Companies Really Need Attendance System?
This Indian Company Has Removed Attendance System For Employees! Does Companies Really Need Attendance System?

Logistics and supply chain solutions provider Redington India has scrapped its attendance system for employees in India.

This will be applicable to all Redington employees in India whether they are working from the office, home, or any other remote location.

Trusting its people

Sundar Rajan G, Vice President – HR, Redington India, said that trust is at the core of the company culture and that its employees are self-motivated with a strong commitment towards the company and its growth.

The idea behind removing the attendance system is to enhance the flexibility and efficiency of the workforce.

It also helps strengthen "mutual trust and passion".

Saving precious time

Aside from boosting staff morale, getting rid of the manual time and attendance program makes practical sense.

There are disadvantages to consider.

With a manual attendance program more time is devoted to processing payroll, faxing, emailing, and tracking down employees to verify hours.

No chance of time theft or human error

Time theft is another factor to consider.

It can include things like employees taking longer lunches without reporting them, reporting the wrong clock in or clock out times, etc.

Not to mention the higher risk for human error with manual time and attendance processes.

Setting an example

Just one misplaced digit can lead to costly errors.

To sum it up, the attendance program can be inefficient and costly and employees should be trusted to be faithful.

It might do other corporates well to follow Redington's example.

Live Track Mumbai Local Trains Via Official Indian Railways App! How It Works?

Live Track Mumbai Local Trains Via Official Indian Railways App! How It Works?
Live Track Mumbai Local Trains Via Official Indian Railways App! How It Works?

Commuters in Mumbai can now track local trains in real-time using Central Railway's Yatri app which is available on both Android and iOS.

It gives real-time information about trains so there should be no worries about delays.

Live alerts

For example, if someone wants to board the 6.06 pm Ambernath fast from CSMT they will receive an alert 15 minutes through the app.

Alerts can be set daily or weekly according to one’s needs.

The app also informs users in case of any disruptions.

GPS data

The app uses the GPS data from the trains and collates with other factors to determine the position of a train.

The data comes from the GPS devices which are installed within the rakes and it gets refreshed every 15 seconds.

The live location feature works for trains running on the Central Railway lines since their GPS tagging was finished recently.

More trains, particularly the local ones and more railway lines are expected to be added once their GPS tagging is completed.

About the app

Yatri has been developed in collaboration with a private firm.

Its Google Play Store page mentions that it also provides details about passenger amenities at stations, as well as a timetable updated with real-time information about trains and live train alerts.

It is still in development, meaning more features are being added frequently.

Users will need to give the app location permissions to be able to use some features including finding nearby trains and stations.

Canada's Express Entry Visa Is Back! Skilled Workers Can Now Get Instant Permanent Residency
Canada’s Express Entry Visa Is Back! Skilled Workers Can Now Get Instant Permanent Residency

Canada is inviting skilled workers to apply for permanent residency.

Two-year wait

This comes after a 2 year wait due to a massive backlog owing to the pandemic and the suspension of the visa programs.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC) – a common route for foreign post-graduation candidates to apply for PR was closed in September 2021.

Now for the first time since December 2020 Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited as many as 1,500 candidates to apply for a PR, including those under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP).

Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced, “Express Entry draws have officially resumed and applications will be processed at our six month processing standard.”

Canada's labor shortage

Immigrants are crucial to solving Canada’s labor shortage.

Its labor force shrank in June, largely due to people aged 55 and older retiring and fewer people seeking jobs.

There are around 1 million job vacancies in Canada.

At the same time, Canada's fertility rate decreased to a record low of 1.4 children per woman in 2020, meaning that the new generation of natural-born Canadians will not be enough to replace the retirees who are leaving the labor force.

Every year, Canada aims to grow its population by about 1% through immigration.

Categories

People can apply for Canadian PR depending on their education and work history under several different immigration classes.

There are 3 categories under the Express Entry system, Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Programme and Federal Skilled Trades Programme.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC): People who have worked in Canada before, three years before application can apply through this route.

It's mostly international students in Canada that apply through this method.

Federal Skilled Worker Programme (FSWP): This is for people with foreign working experience.

factors that are considered include age, education, employment history etc.

Federal Skilled Trades Programme (FSTP): This is for workers with skills in construction, agriculture, and manufacturing.

Application procedure

Select the immigration pathway that fits you and confirm if you meet the criteria.

Candidates can upload their Express Entry profile on IRCC's website.

Candidates receive a Comprehensive Ranking System score based on age, education, language skills, and work experience.

One has to score the minimum cut-off marks for the PR applications, the latest one of which is 557 points.

However this is subject to change.

What happens next?

Approximately every two weeks, IRCC invites the highest-scoring candidates to apply for permanent residence.

Those invited will have 60 days to submit their applications which will be processed within 6 months or less.

There are no guarantees in Canadian immigration, but with Express Entry you have the chance to get permanent residency status six months after you apply.

Kerala Becomes 1st State To Have Its Own Internet Service; 20 Lakh People Will Get Free Internet!

Kerala has now become the first state in India to have its own internet service, which is called the Kerala Fiber Optic Network.

The Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan has confirmed this development in a tweet.

Read on to find out all the details about Kerala's own internet service!

Kerala Becomes First State To Have Own Internet Service

The declaration followed the Department of Telecommunications’ granting of an Internet Service Provider (ISP) licence to the ambitious IT infrastructure project of the Kerala Fiber Optic Network Ltd, which aims to provide everyone in the state with access to the internet.

With this, the effort intended to close the digital divide in society can get going, according to the CM.

He has tweeted, "Kerala becomes the only State in the country with its own internet service. The Kerala Fiber Optic Network Ltd has received the ISP license from @DoT_India. Now, our prestigious #KFON project can kickstart its operations of providing the internet as a basic right to our people."

The KFON programme is designed to give BPL families and 30,000 government offices free internet access.

2019 saw the commencement of the Rs 1,548 crore KFON project and the declaration of internet access as a fundamental right by the previous Left administration.

Kerala Fiber Optic Network Ltd: All You Need To Know Better

A state government programme called K-Fon, or Kerala Fiber Optic Network Ltd, seeks to destroy the digital barriers. According to the administration, the infrastructure that will be produced by this project would enhance the state’s current telecom environment.

The aim of KFON is to bridge their connectivity gap, establish a central network infrastructure (information highway) that all service providers can access without discrimination.

It also intends to establish a dependable, secure, and scalable network that connects all government agencies, academic institutions, medical facilities, and other entities.

KFON will join forces with multiple system operators, telecommunications service providers, and internet service providers to give economically disadvantaged families free internet access.

Any provider at any level of the business segment, including Telecommunication Service Providers, Internet Service Providers, Multiple System Operators and Local cable operators can utilise this network to fix connection gaps at their core networks without having to worry about complying with the onerous Right of Way or RoW and pricey CAPEX requirements.

Facebook Users Can Now Create 5 Different Profiles Linked With Single Account! How Will It Work?
Facebook Users Can Now Create 5 Different Profiles Linked With Single Account! How Will It Work?

In an ongoing development, the social media giant Facebook has been working on letting users create multiple profiles tied to a single account.

Facebook has been reported to be testing a feature which will allow a user to create up to five different profiles under a single account, and the user need not use their real name in these sub created profiles.

We will talk in detail regarding the feature and what can be expected from it further in the article.

Facebook to Allow Creating Multiple Profiles

Users of the social media major Facebook can now make multiple accounts under their main account, which can be used to separate their information and interests in a grouped manner.

For instance, different profiles can be created dedicated to specific groups they would like to connect with, including feed exclusive to friends, family, work and more.

All the users would have to do is tap and switch between the different segregated profiles.

"To help people tailor their experience based on interests and relationships, we're testing a way for people to have more than one profile tied to a single Facebook account," said the company's spokesperson Leonard Lam in an email to TechCrunch.

However, the tech giant has also underlined that users will have to abide by a set of rules while using the multiple profile features.

What Does One Need to Take Care of While Using Multiple Users Feature?

As mentioned, Facebook has directed that anyone using the currently-tested feature needs to follow certain rules.

The additional profiles will be subject to certain policies, which will make sure that one does not misrepresent their identity or impersonate others, considering that they do not need to use their real names in such added profiles.

Instead, users can choose any profile name and username, as long as it is unique and doesn't use any numbers or special characters, stated the report. However, the main profile must continue to use the real name.

"If someone repeatedly violates the company's policies using one of their additional profiles, Facebook's systems will recognize which profile was violating and take appropriate action, such as removing the additional profile or all profiles, including the main account," read the report.

Employers are cutting back on hiring as a precaution to deal with inflationary and geopolitical pressures.

In contrast to an average of 40,000 hires per quarter over the previous three, IT industry behemoth Accenture only hired 12,000 individuals in the most recent quarter that ended in May.

At the beginning of May, we reported that Accenture has grand plans of hiring 1,50,000 new employees in India using the metaverse in the upcoming fiscal year. Presently it has thousands of lateral jobs in India, and most of the positions are based in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Gurugram, etc.

In the April-June quarter, Tata Consultancy Services hired 14,136 new employees, a significant decrease from the 26,000 it hired on average per quarter during the previous fiscal year. In the last 12 months, TCS experienced an attrition rate of 19.7%.

Similar to this, HCL Technologies only hired 2,089 new employees in the first quarter of fiscal 2023. 11,000 new employees were employed in the final quarter of FY22. At 23.8%, the attrition rate was significant.

TCS, HCL To Reduce Hiring

Following the release of their Q1 results on Friday, TCS CEO Rajesh Gopinathan stated that the business “had reduced hiring” even though it “remains on schedule to onboard 40,000 freshers” this fiscal year. It is important to note that during FY 21–22, the IT bellwether hired a staggering 103,000 additional personnel.

There also has been news that top performers will get to join TCS' fastest-growing units – Cognitive Business Operations (CBO), Banking and Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI), and Life Sciences in "various enriching roles".

The company promises job enrichment with a 2-year job rotation either through inter-function mobility, work across multiple domains or movement across locations.

While HCL claimed that “demand (has been) impacted in certain regions,” TCS claimed that its key clients are starting early discussions about the recession.

Additionally, Infosys is reportedly planning to hire more than 50,000 more freshers in FY 2023.

Google Leases 13 Lakh Square Feet Office Space In Bengaluru: One Of The Biggest Real Estate Deals In India After Pandemic!
Google Leases 13 Lakh Square Feet Office Space In Bengaluru: One Of The Biggest Real Estate Deals In India After Pandemic!

In what comes as one of the largest lease transactions in the country since the pandemic began, as per the people who are aware of the deal, Tech giant Google has leased 1.3 million sq ft of office space in Bengaluru.

How Much is 1.3 Million Square Feet?

But what is the this all fuss about? How much is 1.3 million square feet. Let's simplify! Take 1 million square feet. Take a square area of 1000 feet, one side of a football field is 300 feet. So basically the google office is bigger than three football fields combined.

As per the agreement between the tech giant and Bagmane Developers, the property at Bagmane Rio Business Park on Outer Ring Road has been leased for a tenure of 15 years and is expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2022.

They said that for the property Google will be paying Rs 85 per sq ft. The property is under fitout and marks one of the largest deals signed so far.

Including flexible office space in Gurgaon, Google has taken up 2.8 million sq ft of office space in India since the start of the pandemic. Including the country headquarters in Hyderabad, it has total four offices in India.

An industry source said that to implement a hybrid work model, Google is exploring flexible offices across various cities.

The Overall Overview Of Leasing Industry

Despite the much-talked-about emergence of the work-from-home option after the pandemic, new leases are big signed or old lease agreements are being renewed by occupiers and tenants of large office complexes across the country, including big corporations.

With a share of about 58%, it is the technology companies who have led the leasing in India as far as first six months of the year 2022 are concerned. Renewals and renegotiations continue to remain the preferred short-term portfolio strategies of occupiers.

AMD and BYJUs have signed over 5 lakh sq ft of office space each in Bengaluru since the coronavirus spread its claws in 2020. ANZ has taken up 6 lakh sq ft and consulting firm Deloitte over 7.5 lakh sq ft in the city.

Arpit Mehrotra, MD (Bengaluru) Office Services, South India, Colliers said that the market orientation meter is moving from tenant-friendly to balanced. With 30% of the total absorption, Bengaluru led the Q2, followed by Hyderabad and Chennai. As many corporates are working on the capex light model, flexible space demand has increased. In the southern cities, the tech companies remain dominant and the vacancy level have dropped as well.

Due to the combination of pent-up demand and expansion / consolidation-led leasing, the leasing activity in the country is expected to strengthen further in the coming quarter. Meanwhile occupiers are realigning their post-pandemic business strategies.

For the official real estate, the Indian IT industry continues to be the leading demand driver.

As top companies like TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, HCL Tech and Tech Mahindra have hired 230000 out of total 360000 by total 30 companies, there will be a requirement of 18.5 million sq ft of office space in India.

Taking cues from H1 2022, the second half of the year is expected to witness increased momentum in office space pick-up.
