Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has said that during COVID, along with India's medicines and vaccines, the world has changed our spices (spices).Spices) and also experienced the importance of the decoction. Goyal said that by 2030 or before, we can achieve the target of USD 10 billion. I think we can do this in the next five years. The vision of a new India has to be tangy and spicy. Goyal gave cardamom farmers (Farmers) for the Innovative Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme. Goyal said spice exports are satisfactory with an increase of 115 per cent in quantity and 84 per cent in value (US Dollar) between 2014-21. He said that now Indian spices and condiment products are being transported to more than 180 places across the world.
Insurance Scheme for Cardamom Farmers
Goyal launched an innovative weather based crop insurance scheme for cardamom cultivation on behalf of Spices Board of India and Agricultural Insurance Company of India. This will give relief to the farmers cultivating spices. Goyal urged the Spices Board to expand the reach of the quality testing laboratory network to all regions of India with a focus on quality.
Presently there are state-of-the-art laboratories in Kochi in Kerala, Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu, Chennai, Mumbai in Maharashtra, Khandala in Gujarat, Narela near Delhi and Kolkata in West Bengal. Has successfully developed global quality standards for eight spices – black, white, green chillies, cumin, carom seeds, garlic, cloves, carom seeds, basil and ginger.
Focus on getting GI tag
The Minister said that 26 Indian spices including Coorg Green Cardamom, Mizo Ginger and Kanyakumari Clove have got GI Tag, we should consider more such possibilities for traditional Indian produce. Appealed to spice industry to get GI tag for its other specialized products also.
face challenges
Goyal said that India is a leader in global spices, but the sector is also facing challenges. When it comes to export of spices in whole raw form, we currently do not have the facility of cost advantage as compared to many countries in Asia and Africa regions, which means we need to export value added spice products. The focus should be on increasing. We aim to maintain the competitive advantage of the Indian spice industry with additional emphasis on value-added and innovative products development.
The saffron of Kashmir is world famous
Goyal said that spices are an integral part of Indian food and lifestyle. Spices are found in every aspect of our lives, from morning ginger tea or cardamom tea to cosmetic uses, from turmeric uses to dental products using cloves and menthol. India has been the spice bowl of the world for centuries, being the world's largest producer and consumer of spices. Apart from black pepper from Kerala, ginger from Gujarat and Naga chillies of Northeast, saffron of Kashmir is world famous.
Mention of Vasco da Gama on the pretext of spices
Goel said, "Spices were the main reason behind Vasco da Gama's efforts to find a sea route to India and his success of landing on the Kerala coast in 1498 changed world history forever. Indian spices are used in some of the world's most famous food items such as Mexican sauces, curry items popular in Britain, kahwa (popular Arabic drink) etc.
