Guwahati: Delhi batsman and India's 2022 Under-19 World Cup winning captain Yash Dhull created history in his first-class cricket as he scored centuries in both his innings during the Ranji Trophy on Sunday. Against Tamil Nadu at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Delhi's Elite Group H competition, Dhul continued his cricketing form with 113 runs in 202 balls with the help of 14 fours and a six.

Dhul's unbeaten century and his teammate Dhruv Shourie's unbeaten 107 helped Delhi post a score of 228/0 in 65 overs before the match was drawn, giving Tamil Nadu three points from a first innings lead. As he impressed everyone with the way he played his shots, Dhul continued to bat in the second innings as well. After this, he completed his century in 200 balls by hitting a boundary off Shahrukh Khan's part time off spin. Reaching this point, Dhul hit a six on the ground before the match was drawn.

In his innings, Dhul scored 59 runs from the off-side, while playing 144 dot balls, scored 54 runs on-side. After Nari Contractor (102 and 102 not out) for Gujarat in 1952/53 and Virag Awate (126 and 112) for Maharashtra in 2012, Dhul became the third batsman to score centuries in both innings of a Ranji Trophy opening match.

Joining the club featuring Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, Surinder Khanna, Madan Lal, Ajay Sharma, Raman Lamba and Rishabh Pant, Dhul has also become the sixth Delhi batsman to score centuries in both innings of the Ranji Trophy. Earlier, on Thursday, on the first day of the 2021/22 Ranji Trophy, Dhul scored 113 runs in 150 balls including 18 fours in 452 in 141.2 overs in Delhi's first innings.

February turned out to be a great month for Dhul, who captained India to win the Under-19 World Cup final against England in Antigua. In the tournament, he scored 229 runs in four innings at an average of 76.33. This includes 82 against South Africa in the first match of the tournament and 110 against Australia in the semi-finals.
